About the artist

Churchill took up painting in middle age and continued it as a serious personal practice. He worked mainly in oils, painting landscapes, gardens, architecture, and still lifes, often returning to the same scene as light and weather changed.

Views of Chartwell and travels around the Mediterranean and North Africa offered subjects for his direct, colorful approach. The Wallace Collection describes a body of work spanning landscapes, still lifes, portraits, and scenes of home; the paintings are best viewed as an amateur painter’s sustained exploration of color and observation.
